Art
< This is going to be a mini rant. >
I've finally stop procrastinating and address about this issue.
It is really very annoying how people look at art students. Many think that art students in secondary school take art only because they had no choice in choosing other subjects. That's one of the worst stereotypical thinking.
Who says art is for students who are not interested in studying?
So are you saying smart people won't/don't take art?
We all have different strengths. A student being unable to take pure sciences, etc doesn't make the person stupid. Not everyone can do art very well either. Those people you label as 'Smart people' may not posses what an 'art student' has. Neither are they perfect or genius.
I have classmates who score high A1s in Amath and take art. He and she do very well both subjects. Do you think you can handle both? What's more, they do well in other subjects too. Studying for all other subjects while preparing 8 A2 preparatory board with marks worthy drawings before exams and have to get another 10 A3 preparatory board done 3 weeks before the day of Art paper. Do you think it's very easy? I'm telling you the answer is NO.
Does taking art make us less worthy? Arts can't bring us far? I'm afraid you're wrong if you think that way.
Have you heard of Pablo Picasso? Or perhaps Leonardo da Vinci?
They are the few artist that made it up to the top with art.

" Picasso achieved universal renown and immense fortune for his revolutionary artistic accomplishments, and became one of the best-known figures in 20th-century art."
You probably have seen this before, the well known Mona Lisa artwork

"He is widely considered to be one of the greatest painters of all time and perhaps the most diversely talented person ever to have lived."
Having a bright future through art is not impossible.
Being a doctor, lawyer, etc can save/help people, so can art.
Have you heard of ' Meet Me: Making Art Accessible to People with Dementia'?
"Being engaged in the arts is a positive way of maintaining or improving one's quality of life, especially those who live with dementia."
Do you know art therapy helps Alzheimer's patients improve their memory too?
There are many other things art can do. Such as the one in the link below.
Indirectly, art can also help through art auctions. Money can be raised through such activities for organisations that are helping those who need or elderly homes. They can play apart in raising funds to find cures too.

According to a webpage of University if California, Irvine
Art therapy utilizes the act of drawing and creating art to help relieve stress. This works in several ways.
First, the act of drawing or creating art can take your mind off of what is stressing you - at least for a short while. While you are engrossed in the process, you should have a clearer head in which to return to your daily tasks.
Another benefit to art therapy is while engaging in creating art, you are engaged in the action to the point of being in a near meditative state. This results in many of the benefits of meditation and you may feel less stressed when you are done.
I'll stop here for today. I might do a Art Part 2 blog post if I have more to say.
To be honest, people who thinks art is useless are motivators to people who want to pursue their dreams in this field. Thanks for the motivation (;

I feel you,Rachel.I'm taking lit next year and I hate how people see those taking pure sciences as the really smart students who can go into top JCs,whereas those taking 'different' subjects like art,d&t,f&n or lit get seen as those who didn't do well/have no choice.Even those not taking A.Math get the same speculation too. Anyways, you're art is really good and the prep work seems daunting to finish in a short time.I respect you for that.I don't see anything wrong with those choosing a course they're talented in.Sorry if this is a long comment. All the best Rachel :)
ReplyDeleteGreat to know that there are people around me who feels the same. :)
DeleteBy the way, thank you dear, haha yes it is. Thank you once again :)
Exactly ! HAHA it's okay ! I appreciate your comment :) Thanks Kelly, all the best in your studies !

They seriously have no idea at all. Gosh we can't even slack. Haha yes yes, I totally agree with you.
